Hyderabad: An IndiGo Revanth Reddy flight from Delhi to Hyderabad performed a go-around at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday night after bad weather delayed landing clearance.
The aircraft, operating as flight 6E717, carried 229 passengers, including Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. As the plane prepared to descend, the pilot initiated a go-around because air traffic control did not clear the aircraft to land due to unfavourable weather.
Revanth Reddy flight landed safely after delay
The aircraft circled the airport for about 20 minutes before receiving landing clearance. It landed safely at around 8:35 pm. All 229 passengers and crew remained unharmed.
Authorities said a go-around is a routine aviation safety procedure. Pilots use it when landing conditions become unsafe. The aircraft climbs away from the runway before making another landing approach.
This was the second weather-related disruption involving a Revanth Reddy flight in recent weeks. On June 12, another IndiGo flight carrying the Chief Minister from New Delhi to Hyderabad diverted to Bengaluru after authorities withheld landing clearance because of adverse weather.
The earlier flight had been scheduled to land at 9:15 pm. However, heavy rain over Hyderabad forced the diversion. The Chief Minister returned to Hyderabad the following day.
