Food adulteration crackdown intensifies in Hyderabad: Sajjanar

Hyderabad: Food adulteration crackdown has intensified in Hyderabad, with officials registering 61 cases, seizing 15 tonnes of adulterated products and arresting 64 accused in the past month, authorities said.

Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, senior police officer V C Sajjanar said food adulteration was not just a crime but a “silent, deadly attack” on households. He warned that commonly used items, including biscuits, ice creams, milk and spices, were being compromised, posing a major threat to public health.

He said the scale and brazenness of such activities were alarming. Therefore, authorities had stepped up enforcement to protect consumers and ensure a safe food supply across the city.

The crackdown follows the decision of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to establish a dedicated food safety system. In line with this, the Hyderabad Commissionerate has set up the H-FAST team to specifically target adulteration networks.

Food adulteration crackdown gains momentum with H-FAST action

Officials said the H-FAST team had been actively conducting raids and inspections across Hyderabad. As a result, large quantities of adulterated food items were identified and seized within a short span.

Authorities reiterated a zero-tolerance approach towards offenders. They said strict legal action would be taken against those endangering public health for profit.

The ongoing food adulteration crackdown aims to build a safer ecosystem and restore public trust in essential food products. Officials added that enforcement efforts would be further intensified in the coming months.
