Hyderabad: Hyderabad cybercrime police arrested 35 accused across nine states in September 2026 in connection with 23 cybercrime cases. The operations also helped facilitate refunds totalling Rs.88.48 lakh to victims of online fraud.
The arrests took place in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab. Telangana accounted for 10 arrests, followed by Andhra Pradesh with nine and Maharashtra with six.
Kerala and Uttar Pradesh recorded three arrests each. Meanwhile, police arrested one accused each in Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab.
Of the 35 accused, nine were linked to social media-related cases and seven to investment frauds. Police also arrested six accused in digital arrest cases and five in trading frauds.
Hyderabad cybercrime police recover money across fraud categories
The remaining arrests involved identity theft, extortion, job fraud, customer care fraud and advertisement fraud. During the operations, police seized 10 mobile phones, seven cheque books and a stamp belonging to a shell company.
In September, the police registered 83 first information reports (FIRs) based on complaints received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). The cases covered a range of cybercrime complaints reported to the authorities.
Refund figures showed that victims recovered Rs.40.24 lakh in trading fraud cases. Investment fraud cases accounted for Rs.9.20 lakh in refunds, while digital arrest cases saw Rs.6.91 lakh returned to victims.
Police said the operations focused on tracking cybercriminals operating across state borders and recovering money lost by victims. The arrests and refunds formed part of the department’s efforts to address cybercrime complaints.
