Hyderabad: The BioAgri Input Producers Association (BIPA) has proposed reducing chemical fertiliser and pesticide use by 25% in phases. The association estimated that biological farming savings could reach Rs.40,000 crore annually for the national exchequer.
The proposal featured prominently at BIOAGRI 2026, BIPA’s sixth annual summit held at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. The event focused on “Biological Intelligence & Smart Agriculture” and brought together participants to discuss sustainable farming solutions.
BIPA plans to publish a white paper outlining how farmers could integrate biological inputs into conventional agriculture. Meanwhile, the association intends to consult the government, industry representatives and research institutions on a national policy for biological input integration.
According to BIPA, wider adoption of biological inputs could reduce cultivation costs and improve soil health. The association also identified lower fertiliser subsidy expenditure, reduced import dependence and stronger agricultural exports as potential benefits.
Biological farming savings drive BIPA’s policy roadmap
BIPA also called for a national programme to improve soil organic carbon. The association said collaboration among policymakers, scientists and industry representatives would be essential to expand biological solutions across Indian agriculture.
The summit featured 30 speakers and 36 exhibitors, with sessions covering biotechnology, artificial intelligence, precision farming and sustainable agriculture. Former Plant Protection Advisor to the Government of India Dr. J. P. Singh inaugurated the event.
BIPA also presented its 2026 awards recognising women leaders in agribusiness, scientific research, doctoral research, product innovation and market outreach. The Bio-ag Women Leadership Excellence Awards went to Dr. Sandeepa Kanitkar of Kanbiosys, Sudha Reddy of K N Biosciences and Lakshmi Narayanan of T-Stanes & Company.
The association’s office-bearers outlined its priorities and the summit’s outcomes. They included President Emeritus Dr. K. R. K. Reddy, President Dr. A. John Peter, Secretary General Dr. Venkatesh Devanur, Vice President Praharaju Laxminarayana and Joint Treasurer C. H. V. Srinivas.
