Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police launched a special enforcement drive against the use of fake number plates across the city following a rise in violations. The department registered six criminal cases during the past week, seized multiple vehicles, and warned that offenders would face criminal prosecution and vehicle seizure.
Police said people were using fake, tampered, altered, or unauthorized registration plates to conceal vehicle identities, evade enforcement, and violate traffic rules. Officials stated that such offences attract action under the Motor Vehicles Act and other applicable laws.
The six cases were registered at Sultan Bazar, Mehdipatnam, Bahadurpura, Peddapalli (Ramagundam), Medipally (Malkajgiri), and Kattangur (Nalgonda) police stations. Meanwhile, officers identified and seized several vehicles during the enforcement drive.
HSRP mandatory in fake number plates drive
The Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated that only Government-approved High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are legally valid. The department said altered, obscured, incomplete, sticker-based, or unauthorized registration plates remain strictly prohibited.
Furthermore, police reaffirmed their Zero Tolerance policy against such violations. They urged motorists to ensure their vehicles comply with prescribed registration plate norms and traffic regulations.
The department said the enforcement drive would continue across Hyderabad in a sustained and systematic manner. It added that the initiative aims to improve road safety, promote lawful vehicle usage, and strengthen crime prevention.
