Hyderabad: Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing officers arrested a man after he allegedly drove a car at police during a drug operation in Abids. The Abids drug arrest followed an incident that fractured a constable’s leg and injured two other officers.
Police identified the accused as Saif, a resident of Hussaini Alam. Officers alleged that he tried to escape in a blue Maruti Baleno after they approached him near Payal Footwear. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon within the Abids Police Station limits. H-NEW Constable Mahender Yadav had earlier received information about suspected drug sales in the area.
Mahender then informed senior officers about the tip-off. Subsequently, H-NEW Inspector Srikant and his team set up surveillance around Abids. During the operation, officers noticed a blue Baleno arriving near Payal Footwear. Police said another person approached the vehicle and handed a suspected drug packet to its occupants.
The team immediately detained the person who had delivered the packet. Officers then approached Saif, who remained inside the car. Police showed their identity cards and asked him to step out. However, Saif allegedly pretended that he was moving the vehicle aside.
He then suddenly reversed the car and tried to flee, according to the complaint. Constable Mahender Yadav attempted to stop the vehicle. Police alleged that Saif drove over Mahender’s leg while escaping. The impact caused serious injuries to the constable.
Abids drug arrest followed police chase
Inspector Srikant and other team members chased the car after Saif fled from the scene. They intercepted the vehicle near Afzalgunj after a pursuit. During the operation, Inspector Srikant and Constable Vamsidhar suffered minor injuries. Meanwhile, officers moved Mahender Yadav to Yashoda Hospital in Somajiguda.
Doctors examined the injured constable and confirmed a fracture in his leg. Police then recorded his complaint regarding the alleged attack. The Abids drug arrest also led police to register attempt-to-murder cases against Saif. Officers filed cases at the Abids and Afzalgunj police stations.
H-NEW personnel took Saif into custody and began questioning him. Investigators also examined his alleged role in the suspected drug transaction. Police continued to verify the source of the packet and the identities of others involved. They also examined whether the accused had links to a wider supply network.
Abids drug arrest probe examines suspected packet
The operation began after H-NEW received specific information about alleged drug sales in Abids. Therefore, officers had deployed staff in the area before the vehicle arrived. Police said the detained intermediary had handed a packet to people inside the Baleno. Investigators were expected to examine the contents of the seized packet.
They also began reviewing the sequence of events at Payal Footwear and Afzalgunj. In addition, officers assessed the injuries suffered by the police personnel.
The Abids drug arrest remained under investigation. Police had not released complete details about the suspected substance or other possible accused. Further information was awaited on the recovered packet, the vehicle and the accused’s alleged network.
