Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar visited two injured H-NEW constables at their homes on Tuesday and reviewed their recovery. The officers had suffered injuries during a drug-related operation in Abids.
Sajjanar visited Constable N. Mahender Yadav at his residence in Langar Houz. He also met Constable M. Vamshidhar at his home in Prashanth Nagar. During the visits, the Commissioner enquired about their health and general well-being. He also praised the courage they displayed while performing their duties.
Sajjanar urged the constables and their families not to lose confidence. Moreover, he assured them that the police department would extend support in every possible manner. Task Force Deputy Commissioner of Police Vaibhav Gaikwad Raghunath accompanied the Commissioner during the visits.
Injured H-NEW constables recovering after Abids incident
An H-NEW team had gone to the Tilak Road area in Abids on the 26th of this month. The officers had received information about suspected drug activity in the area. During the operation, the driver of a blue Baleno car allegedly tried to escape from the police. The vehicle carried registration number TG 12 8766.
Police said the driver reversed the car at high speed and drove towards the officers. Consequently, one of the car’s wheels passed over Mahender Yadav’s leg. Mahender suffered serious injuries in the incident. Vamshidhar also sustained injuries while carrying out the operation.
The injured H-NEW constables underwent treatment at Yashoda Hospital in Somajiguda. Doctors later discharged them, and both officers returned to their homes. Sajjanar met them after their discharge and assessed their recovery. He also recognised their determination during the enforcement operation.
Meanwhile, Abids Police registered a case against the car driver. Police accused him of launching a potentially fatal attack on officers while they performed official duties.
The driver had allegedly fled after the incident. Therefore, investigators continued their efforts to trace him and examine the circumstances surrounding the attack. The Commissioner’s visit aimed to reassure the officers after the incident. It also conveyed departmental support to the constables and their families during the recovery period.
