Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police, in coordination with Langer House Police, booked a man in a fake number plate case after detecting the alleged use of a forged vehicle registration number to evade traffic challans.
Police identified the accused as Shaik Ali. According to officials, he allegedly affixed a fake registration number plate to his Honda Activa, resulting in traffic penalties being issued to the owner of the genuine vehicle.
Following an investigation, police apprehended the accused and registered a criminal case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Fake number plate case uncovered during crackdown
Officials said the fake number plate case came to light during enforcement activities conducted by Hyderabad Traffic Police.
The department stated that the misuse of forged or identical registration numbers creates difficulties for genuine vehicle owners and interferes with traffic enforcement mechanisms.
Therefore, authorities launched action against the accused and initiated legal proceedings.
Police reiterated that the use of fake, tampered or identical number plates constitutes a serious offence under existing laws. Moreover, violators can face strict legal consequences under both the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Fake number plate case prompts public warning
Hyderabad Traffic Police said they use advanced technology to identify such violations across the city.
The department has deployed CCTV surveillance systems and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to detect vehicles operating with fake or tampered registration plates.
Furthermore, these systems help authorities track vehicle movements and identify offenders more effectively.
Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspected misuse of vehicle registration numbers.
Members of the public can report such cases through the Hyderabad Traffic Police e-Challan portal, email support services or the official WhatsApp helpline.
Officials said strict enforcement measures would continue to curb violations and ensure accountability on city roads.
