Hyderabad: The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) observed EFLU World Environment Day celebrations on Friday with a special talk and plantation drive centred on environmental sustainability and climate action.
The programme was organised under the global theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” and brought together students, faculty members and officials to discuss environmental responsibility.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Nagaraju and chief guest D. Harichandana, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Telangana, led a symbolic plantation drive at the university campus. The initiative reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to environmental conservation and ecological stewardship.

Delivering the keynote address, Harichandana stressed the importance of climate-conscious development and sustainable growth.
She said small initiatives could lead to significant change and highlighted the need to adopt practices that balance development with environmental responsibility.
Harichandana also underlined the importance of collective action in addressing climate challenges. Furthermore, she encouraged stakeholders to integrate sustainability into everyday decision-making processes.
In his presidential address, Prof. Nagaraju reiterated the university’s commitment to building a greener campus and promoting environmental awareness within academic institutions.
He pointed to the challenge of bridging the financial gap required for sustainable development. However, he noted that growing public awareness created opportunities for meaningful action.
“Awareness is high, but action must catch up,” Prof. Nagaraju said while emphasising the need for practical measures to support sustainability goals.
EFLU World Environment Day draws wide participation
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the university community.
Registrar Sini Manchala, Proctor Prof. Shyam Rao Rathod, Officer on Special Duty to the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rajaram, faculty members, non-teaching staff and students attended the event.
Participants engaged in discussions on environmental responsibility and explored ways to contribute to a sustainable future. Moreover, the interaction encouraged greater awareness of climate-related challenges and solutions.
Through the special talk and plantation drive, EFLU reinforced its commitment to nurturing ecological consciousness among students and staff.
