Hyderabad: Hyderabad SHE Teams secured convictions in five eve-teasing cases detected at Charminar, strengthening efforts to ensure the safety of women in public places.
The cases were detected during surveillance operations conducted by SHE Teams as part of their ongoing drive to protect women and children across the city.
Officials said five individuals independently misbehaved with women at Charminar by inappropriately touching them in public places. Consequently, the incidents caused inconvenience and distress to the victims.
The SHE Teams immediately apprehended the offenders and initiated legal action.
SHE Teams convictions follow Charminar surveillance
Police registered petty cases against the accused under Section 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 70(C) of the City Police Act.
Subsequently, authorities produced the offenders before a court in Nampally.
After hearing the cases, the court sentenced each offender to three days of simple imprisonment. In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on each individual.
Officials said the convictions reflected the department’s commitment to taking prompt action against harassment in public spaces.
The operations were conducted under the supervision of V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City.
SHE Teams convictions reinforce women’s safety efforts
Police said SHE Teams continue to work towards ensuring the safety, security and dignity of women and children throughout Hyderabad.
Furthermore, officials urged women facing harassment to seek immediate assistance through Dial 100, Dial 112 or the SHE Teams helpline.
The department reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe environment for women and children in public places.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police warned that individuals involved in harassment, stalking, cyber abuse and misuse of social media platforms would face stringent legal action.
Officials emphasised that SHE Teams would continue surveillance and enforcement activities to prevent offences and improve public safety.
