Hyderabad: Telangana is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for a week from Sunday, September 20, as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify. The Meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for 24 districts in the State.
Gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely across Telangana on Sunday. The weather is also expected to feature thunderstorms and lightning, officials said.
The yellow alert covers Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy and Hyderabad.
The alert also covers Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts.
Heavy rainfall is likely in several districts on Monday, including Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar and Nagarkurnool.
Low-pressure system likely to intensify
The low-pressure area is currently situated over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal. Officials said it is likely to move west-northwestwards and gradually strengthen.
The system is expected to intensify into a depression by September 21 and a deep depression by September 22. It is likely to move towards the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, close to the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts, by the morning of September 23.
Under the system’s influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in several districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on September 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25, the Meteorological department said.
