TGPCB pushes recycled water use in Jeedimetla industries

Hyderabad: The Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) urged industries to adopt recycled water use amid severe drought conditions linked to El Niño. The initiative aims to reduce dependence on depleting groundwater. At the same time, it seeks to conserve fresh water across the State.

As part of this effort, officials from the TGPCB Hyderabad Zonal Office met representatives of the Jeedimetla Industries Association (JIA) in Begumpet. During the meeting, they discussed ways to reuse treated industrial effluents in manufacturing processes.

The officials also advised industries to use treated domestic wastewater for non-potable purposes. They identified municipal Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and local gated communities as potential sources. Instead of allowing this wastewater to flow into public drains, industries could reuse it for suitable operations.

Recycled water use backed by JETL treatment capacity

Following the discussions, industry representatives visited the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP). Jeedimetla Effluent Treatment Limited (JETL) operates the facility. During the visit, TGPCB officials demonstrated that its treated output met quality standards for various non-potable industrial uses in the Jeedimetla belt.

The JETL facility can currently supply 12 lakh litres of treated wastewater daily. In other words, its capacity stands at 1.2 million litres or 1.2 MLD.

Meanwhile, TGPCB officials urged all local industrial units to adopt recycled water use immediately. They said wider reuse of treated wastewater would help conserve fresh water for public consumption.
