Fahim hits back at Harish Rao, defends Congress government’s record

Hyderabad: Telangana Food Corporation Chairman and TPCC Vice-President M.A. Fahim launched a sharp attack on BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Saturday, accusing the opposition party of avoiding debate on its decade-long rule and defending the Congress government’s governance record.

Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan, Fahim said Harish Rao was not operating at the level of the Chief Minister and asserted that Congress leaders were capable of answering the questions raised by the senior BRS leader.

Referring to repeated demands from the BRS for a discussion on governance, Fahim alleged that the previous government had avoided debate during its tenure. He questioned Harish Rao’s criticism of the Congress administration and challenged the BRS to first account for its performance during its 10 years in power.

Fahim dismissed Harish Rao’s confidence about future electoral prospects in Palamuru district. He said the BRS should first assess its own political position in Medak before making predictions about upcoming elections.

The Congress leader claimed that the BRS failed to secure parliamentary representation and alleged that voters had supported the Congress in municipal, corporation and local body elections. He also cited the outcomes of the Cantonment and Jubilee Hills by-elections to argue that public support was shifting towards the Congress.

Fahim accused Harish Rao of making personal remarks against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and warned that Congress leaders would strongly counter such criticism.

The Congress leader alleged that the BRS had converted Mission Kakatiya into a platform for commissions and corruption. He further accused the previous government of large-scale irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project.

Fahim said people associated the BRS government with corruption and alleged that the public continued to remember what he described as large-scale financial mismanagement during the party’s decade in office.

He also questioned the BRS demand for a special Assembly debate and challenged the party to ensure the participation of its president K. Chandrashekar Rao in such discussions.

Referring to recent remarks by BRS MLC K. Kavitha, Fahim said the party should first clarify issues raised internally before seeking a debate with Congress leaders.

The Congress leader also questioned Harish Rao’s political future and alleged uncertainty within the BRS leadership.

Defending the state government’s financial management, Fahim said the Congress administration was repaying debts inherited from the previous regime while simultaneously implementing welfare programmes for the public.
