Hyderabad: Former MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar accused police of weakening a POCSO case involving a minor girl by changing sections after registering the case under the Act.
Addressing a media conference at the BRS office in Balasamudram, he said democratic voices across the country were condemning the delay in the arrest. He said the BRS was demanding immediate action against the accused.
Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of acting against his earlier statements on punishing influential people involved in crimes. He said the Chief Minister had previously promised strict action against celebrities and powerful accused persons.
He alleged that police first registered a POCSO case and later changed sections to weaken the investigation. According to him, authorities were trying to divert the case.
POCSO case allegations trigger criticism against police
The former MLA referred to cases filed against BRS leaders in recent weeks. He alleged that police booked party leaders under non-bailable sections after they approached officials over removal of party flags during a farmers’ meeting organised by KT Rama Rao.
He claimed the victim suffered for nearly two years before approaching police with her parents. Even after the complaint, authorities failed to take strict action, he alleged.
Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar also alleged that national Congress leaders demanded strict punishment for the accused. However, he claimed the Telangana government was supporting BJP leaders and protecting those involved in the case.
He warned that the BRS would launch phased protests against the government’s handling of the investigation and its alleged support for BJP leaders.
