Telangana targets global life sciences innovation hub with new oncology facility

Hyderabad: Telangana IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu on Monday said the state is building a life sciences innovation hub by integrating research, technology, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and skill development to address future healthcare challenges.

The Minister made the remarks after inaugurating India’s first integrated oncology manufacturing facility established by Ciro Pharma Private Limited with an investment of ₹800 crore at Biotech Park Phase-III in Karakapatla, Markook mandal of Siddipet district.

Life sciences innovation hub to drive healthcare growth

Sridhar Babu said the Telangana government aims to make the state a global model for industrial development. Moreover, he announced that the government had prepared a special action plan to develop the Zaheerabad National Investment and Manufacturing Zone into a model manufacturing zone.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting Green Pharma. Additionally, he said Telangana was encouraging industries to adopt environmentally sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing practices for future generations.

Furthermore, the Minister expressed confidence that the next globally significant pharmaceutical molecule could emerge from Telangana. He also assured full government support for such innovations.

Life sciences innovation hub backed by new policy

Sridhar Babu said the Telangana Rising-2047 vision and the Next Generation Life Sciences Policy seek to create an integrated ecosystem from research to manufacturing. According to the Minister, the government is prioritising biologics, biosimilars, cell and gene therapies, artificial intelligence and digital health as part of this strategy.

He also alleged that opposition parties were spreading misinformation about flagship initiatives such as Bharat Future City and the HILT Policy. He claimed they were attempting to mislead the public despite Telangana’s industrial progress over the past two-and-a-half years.

Meanwhile, the new facility will manufacture oral oncology medicines, sterile injectables, lyophilized powder injections and soft gel capsules using advanced containment technology for cancer treatment.

The plant will initially create 500 direct jobs. Subsequently, the company expects employment to double in the coming years. Sridhar Babu said the facility would strengthen India’s pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities. He added that it would further reinforce Telangana’s position as a global life sciences innovation hub.

Revenue, Housing and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy attended the event along with company representatives Dr. Govinda Reddy, Dr. Madhusudan Reddy and other dignitaries.
