Telangana electrifies 9,800 Anganwadi centres in six months

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has provided electricity connections to 9,800 Anganwadi centres over the past six months. The initiative has increased electrification coverage across the State to nearly 90 percent.

Women and Child Welfare Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka said the government had prioritised basic infrastructure at these centres. She said better facilities would improve the learning environment for children and working conditions for staff.

Telangana has 35,781 Anganwadis. Of these, 32,109 now have electricity. The government plans to provide power to the remaining facilities and achieve 100 percent electrification.

Anganwadi centres move towards full electrification

According to the government, nearly 40 percent of the centres earlier functioned without electricity. The absence of fans and lights affected children’s comfort. It also hampered digital learning and created difficulties for Anganwadi workers.

Seethakka said she had urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to extend the free electricity policy available to government educational institutions to Anganwadi centres. The government subsequently approved the proposal.

Meanwhile, the Women and Child Welfare Department worked with the Energy Department to accelerate the electrification drive. Officials identified pending connections and completed them on priority.

The government said it had provided new electricity connections to 11,194 centres. Of these, 9,800 received power during the past six months.

Seethakka welcomed the progress and said the remaining facilities would soon receive electricity. She said improved infrastructure would create a safer and more child-friendly environment.

The Minister also criticised the previous government. She alleged it had failed to provide electricity to thousands of Anganwadi centres despite its development claims. She said the present government was delivering visible improvements through concrete action.
