Hyderabad: The Telangana government is considering another Telangana liquor price revision as the Price Determination Committee is expected to submit its recommendations on revised rates and the proposed introduction of 150 ml and 200 ml liquor bottles.
The committee is scheduled to meet the state government after holding multiple rounds of discussions with liquor manufacturers. Apart from recommending revised prices, the panel is also expected to examine proposals to introduce smaller liquor bottles in the state market.
According to reports, some liquor companies have informed the Telangana Beverages Corporation Limited (TGBCL) that they are ready to manufacture liquor in 150 ml and 200 ml bottle sizes if the proposal receives government approval.
The Congress government has already revised liquor prices twice since assuming office. Beer prices were increased in February last year, followed by a revision in liquor prices in May. The latest proposals are expected to cover all categories, including economy, medium, premium, and higher-end brands.
Telangana liquor price revision may affect all categories
According to the proposals under consideration, premium full bottles could become costlier by up to ₹100, while higher-end brands may see an increase of up to ₹120. Prices of lower-priced liquor brands could also rise by up to ₹90, although the government has not yet taken a final decision.
Along with the proposed price revision, the introduction of 150 ml and 200 ml bottles is also under discussion. TGBCL estimates that these smaller bottle sizes could increase monthly liquor sales by around two lakh additional cases.
The government has not yet announced a final decision on either the proposed price revision or the introduction of the new bottle sizes. The proposals are expected to be examined after the committee submits its report.
