Hyderabad: Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar on Sunday warned cow vigilante groups against taking law into their own hands during the Bakrid festival.
The Commissioner held a coordination meeting with representatives of various organisations to discuss law and order arrangements in the city.
Sajjanar said members of these groups should immediately inform police about illegal cattle transportation.
However, he warned them against attacking accused persons or interfering in police duties.
He said police would take strict action against anyone violating the law.
The Commissioner stated that police established checkpoints at the Commissionerate borders to prevent untoward incidents during the festival season.
He also directed officials to register serious criminal cases against people posting provocative cattle slaughter videos or reels on social media.
