Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday pitched an ambitious proposal to TATA Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran to upgrade major stadiums in Hyderabad. He also suggested they develop the Musi riverfront as part of Telangana’s broader vision for sustainable urban growth and Olympic-scale sports infrastructure.
The discussion took place during a high-level meeting at the TCS Pavilion on Day 2 of the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos. At this meeting, the Telangana delegation presented the state’s long-term growth strategy under the ‘Telangana Rising 2047’ vision.
TATA agrees to partner on Hyderabad sports and urban renewal projects
The Chief Minister highlighted Telangana’s existing partnership with Tata Technologies in transforming 65 government ITIs into Advanced Technology Centres. He also revealed plans to upgrade polytechnic colleges into state-of-the-art skill centres. On the sports front, he proposed that the TATA Group support the enhancement of key stadiums in Hyderabad. This aligns with the goal of preparing Indian athletes for the 2036 Olympics.
Chandrasekaran responded positively, acknowledging the urgent need for world-class sports infrastructure. He praised the state’s early training approach for young athletes.
Revanth Reddy also unveiled plans for the Musi River transformation, including a riverfront redevelopment project, night economy zones, and a trumpet bridge for traffic relief. He also announced a new water body named ‘Gandhi Sarovar’. The TATA Chairman expressed keen interest in partnering on the Musi rejuvenation. He cited the Group’s experience in water body restoration projects in Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
TATA to explore hospitality, AI, and resort ventures in Telangana
The CM proposed naming a major greenfield expressway as ‘Ratan Tata Road’, aimed at improving access between Bharat Future City, the Outer Ring Road (ORR), and Regional Ring Road (RRR). Plans to install a statue of Ratan Tata in Hyderabad were also discussed.
Chandrasekaran welcomed these gestures and shared that TATA is planning hotel investments across temple towns like Medaram, Vemulawada, and Bhadrachalam. He also expressed interest in developing a world-class resort along the Srisailam highway. This site is adjacent to the tiger reserve and the iconic temple. The resort will serve business and tourism purposes.
On the technology front, the TATA Chairman confirmed the Group’s strong interest in AI data centres, EV manufacturing, and semiconductor facilities in Telangana. He noted the state’s strategic edge in talent and infrastructure. He added, “Telangana is well-positioned for the next wave of growth.”
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and other senior officials attended the session, which also featured discussions on heritage site revival and water body restoration.
