Hyderabad: Redevelopment work at Secunderabad Railway Station has reached the halfway point. The ₹714.73 crore project is moving ahead in stages, without affecting train services—even during peak festive travel.
New parking system helps ease traffic
To handle station traffic, officials have suspended parking on the Platform No.1 side. At this entrance, only pick-up and drop-off are allowed. On Platform No.10, a new ‘Access Control System’ now stops illegal parking and allows vehicles to move more easily.
Passengers arriving through Platform No.10 get 15 minutes of free time for pick-up or drop. If vehicles stay longer in areas not marked for parking, they face extra charges.
Railway staff have also opened a basement parking lot near Platform No.10. It supports both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, helping reduce road congestion.
To help guide travellers, staff placed signs, display boards, and regular announcements throughout the station.
Parking charges are ₹40 for cars, ₹25 for two-wheelers, and ₹5 for bicycles for the first two hours. Rates go up slightly after that.
The project is due to finish by December 2026. Once complete, the station will include better platforms, smoother traffic flow, and a multi-level parking area.
Railway authorities are urging passengers to use the basement parking area to avoid delays during the upgrade work.
