Dr Sravan Dasoju seeks Governor’s intervention against OU professor’s suspension

Hyderabad: MLC Dr Sravan Kumar Dasoju submitted a formal complaint to the Telangana Governor opposing the suspension of Osmania University Professor B. Manohar. He called the action unconstitutional and undemocratic. This case of OU professor suspension has sparked significant debate in academic circles.

In his petition, Dr Sravan urged the Governor to intervene and immediately revoke the suspension order. He alleged that the university administration was suppressing dissent and stifling academic freedom without due process. Highlighting concerns around the recent OU professor suspension, he said the action reflected a deeper crisis.

He criticised the Osmania University authorities for acting without conducting any inquiry, describing the move as authoritarian. “Universities are centres of intellect, not factories to produce slaves,” he said, firmly referencing the OU professor suspension scenario.

Dr Sravan accused university officials of attempting to instil fear among faculty members through arbitrary actions. He said the administration was functioning like law enforcement, crushing voices of dissent and undermining the democratic ethos of the institution. Moreover, the OU professor suspension serves as an example of this troubling trend.

He stated that the suspension of Professor Manohar was part of a wider attempt to destroy the historical legacy of Osmania University. Calling it an injustice, he maintained that such actions were designed to silence questioning voices and violate constitutional norms.

“Suppression of questioning voices in universities is an attack on democracy itself,” he stated in his representation to the Governor.
