Hyderabad: A Hyderabad court has delivered a POCSO case conviction, sentencing an accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case involving the repeated sexual assault of a minor girl.
The XII Additional Sessions Judge, Nampally, convicted Nagaraju in Crime No. 71/2019 registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 16,000 on the convict.
According to police, the case involved the repeated sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl on the false promise of marriage.
Investigators also accused him of criminal intimidation and exploitation through obscene photographs and videos.
POCSO case conviction follows victim support and investigation
Following the victim’s complaint, Gandhi Nagar Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the IPC and the POCSO Act.
Subsequently, officials extended support to the victim through the Bharosa Centre.
Police said the investigation team worked closely with prosecutors and legal counsellors throughout the trial.
Meanwhile, Bharosa Centre personnel provided continuous counselling, emotional support and legal assistance to the victim and her family.
Further, court duty officers and support staff coordinated efforts to ensure the case progressed smoothly.
The court ultimately found the accused guilty and awarded the sentence.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar appreciated the investigating officers, prosecutors, Bharosa legal counsellors, court duty officers and support teams involved in the case.
He said their coordinated efforts helped secure justice for the victim.
