Hyderabad: A Malkajgiri court granted interim bail to Bandi Bhagirath in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The Bandi Bhagirath bail order came while he was in judicial custody following his arrest in connection with allegations of sexual assault on a young woman.
According to reports, Bhagirath had been lodged in jail for several weeks after his arrest. His lawyers sought interim bail citing his engineering examinations.
Bandi Bhagirath bail valid until June 26
Meanwhile, the court heard arguments from both sides before granting interim bail until June 26. The order allows Bhagirath temporary relief from judicial custody. Police had registered a POCSO case against him last month.
Following the case registration, several groups demanded his arrest. Bhagirath remained unavailable for several days before surrendering to the police on May 17. Subsequently, Pet Basheerabad police produced him before a magistrate.
The Medchal court remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. Authorities later shifted him to jail after the remand proceedings. Before that, Special Investigation Team officials questioned him for more than two hours.
Bhagirath spent more than a month in custody before securing interim bail from the court.
