Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged residents to remain alert as heavy rain disrupted normal life in Hyderabad. He asked people to avoid unnecessary travel while emergency teams continued relief operations.

The Minister said he was reviewing the situation continuously. He spoke with the GHMC Commissioner, Hyderabad District Collector and Hyderabad City Police Commissioner to assess the impact.

Ponnam Prabhakar directed all departments to work in coordination. He instructed officials to begin relief measures immediately and minimise inconvenience to the public.

He also directed the Traffic Police to ensure smooth traffic movement. Staff quickly cleared waterlogging at Raj Bhavan Road, Somajiguda and the Praja Bhavan surroundings.

Heavy rain prompts emergency response

Officials informed the Minister that runoff from elevated areas had caused problems in Krishna Nagar. Meanwhile, rain continued in Rajendranagar and Shamshabad. Officials said heavy rain could continue for another two hours.

Ponnam Prabhakar directed GHMC, Police, Traffic Police and HYDRAA teams to remain on high alert. He instructed all agencies to coordinate their response.

He also ordered special precautions around manholes in waterlogged areas. GHMC and HYDRAA monsoon emergency teams were asked to monitor vulnerable locations continuously and prioritise public safety.

The Minister urged people to stay indoors unless travel was essential. He advised residents in low-lying areas to remain especially vigilant. He said the government was monitoring the situation continuously and taking all necessary measures through coordinated action by all departments.
