Uttam Kumar Reddy promises funds to accelerate Palamuru irrigation projects

Hyderabad: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Telangana government will provide all required funds to accelerate Palamuru irrigation projects and complete long-pending works in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district.

The minister announced that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will undertake a two-day review of major irrigation schemes in the district on June 4 and 5.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the government has placed the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district at the centre of its irrigation strategy. He added that officials will focus on completing key projects, resolving land acquisition issues and speeding up construction activities.

The minister said the government is ready to release whatever funds are necessary to advance Palamuru irrigation projects, including the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Nettempadu Lift Irrigation Scheme, Koilsagar Project and Bheema Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Ajilapur Lift Irrigation Scheme in Devarakadra mandal on Saturday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the government aims to transform the drought-prone region into a fully irrigated and agriculturally prosperous area.

Palamuru irrigation projects to undergo detailed review

The minister said the Chief Minister’s visit will include reviews of the Palamuru-Rangareddy, Nettempadu, Koilsagar, Bheema and Kalwakurthy irrigation schemes.

He alleged that several projects remained incomplete during the previous BRS government’s tenure despite repeated assurances. According to Uttam Kumar Reddy, authorities did not give adequate priority to irrigation schemes in the Palamuru region.

Rejecting claims that the Palamuru-Rangareddy project was nearly complete before the change of government, he said the project had not delivered irrigation benefits to a single acre when the Congress government assumed office.

The minister maintained that work gained momentum after the present government took charge. He said the Chief Minister’s visit would further accelerate development and strengthen irrigation infrastructure across the region.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also said the Ajilapur Lift Irrigation Scheme will cost Rs.32 crore. The project will provide irrigation support to about 1,400 acres in Ajilapur, Gaddagudem and Venkatayapalli villages.

The scheme will draw water from the Koilsagar Balancing Reservoir and utilise nearly 65 MCFT of water for irrigation purposes.

The minister congratulated Devarakadra MLA G. Madhusudhan Reddy for securing the project and said it would benefit local farmers.

Earlier, Uttam Kumar Reddy reviewed paddy procurement operations in the district. He also held discussions with district collectors, public representatives and officials to ensure smooth procurement of farmers’ produce.

Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Vakiti Srihari, Civil Supplies Commissioner Stephen Ravindra, district collectors, MLAs and MLCs attended the review meeting.
