Balka Suman arrested over remarks on Singareni and public property

Hyderabad: Former BRS MLA Balka Suman was arrested by Nampally police on Saturday in connection with cases registered over his alleged remarks concerning Singareni and public property.

Police reached Telangana Bhavan after receiving information that Suman was present there. Soon, tensions escalated as BRS activists blocked police personnel and raised slogans against the police.

After a brief standoff, Suman addressed the media before police took him into custody. Authorities later shifted him to Nampally Police Station.

Speaking before his arrest, Suman alleged that the Congress government was targeting him because he questioned its policies. He also reiterated his criticism of the government’s employment-related promises concerning Singareni.

Suman claimed that authorities had registered more than 250 cases against him in the past for political reasons. He said he would continue raising issues against the government.

Nampally ACP Praveen said police registered a case based on a complaint from a Singareni official. According to the complaint, Suman allegedly made provocative remarks concerning the organisation.

The ACP said police arrived at Telangana Bhavan to serve notices and take Suman into custody as part of the investigation.

Meanwhile, Suman’s legal counsel said he had already filed an anticipatory bail petition. The lawyer argued that some of the charges invoked against the former MLA were not applicable.

He also stated that Suman would cooperate with investigators and pursue legal remedies through the courts.

The controversy arose from remarks attributed to Suman during recent speeches. Police alleged that he called for militant-like protests and made statements relating to Singareni properties and railway infrastructure.

Following criticism over those remarks, police registered cases at Abids and Nampally police stations. Authorities later initiated action amid reports that Suman had stayed at Telangana Bhavan for the past two days.
