Hyderabad: TGSRTC Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy warned of strict legal action against anyone involved in assaults on RTC staff while they performed official duties. The warning followed an alleged attack on Barkatpura depot driver Md. Azam and conductor P. Lakshmaiah. The incident occurred near Galaxy bus stop under the limits of Tolichowki Police Station.
According to TGSRTC, a man identified as Zeeshan allegedly blocked the RTC bus with his Maruti car. He then allegedly verbally abused the driver and conductor before assaulting them.
The corporation said Azam sustained a serious head injury in the alleged attack. It also accused Zeeshan of damaging the Ticket Issuing Machine. TGSRTC further alleged that the accused behaved indecently towards women passengers during the incident.
Assaults on RTC staff will face legal action
Following a complaint from driver Azam, Tolichowki police registered a case against the accused. Police invoked various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in connection with the incident.
The case also included Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. Police subsequently arrested Zeeshan and produced him before a court. The court remanded him to judicial custody.
Nagi Reddy said assaults on RTC staff and obstruction of their official duties would be dealt with firmly. He said RTC employees performed an essential public service and needed protection while carrying out their responsibilities.
The Managing Director also warned against damaging corporation property. He said such acts would not be tolerated and would invite strict legal action. TGSRTC maintained that firm action was inevitable against those involved in attacks on employees or damage to its property.
