ECI orders faster SIR digitisation, GHMC acts against erring EROs

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) directed officials to accelerate SIR digitisation and instructed District Election Officers to initiate action against Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) showing poor performance during a nationwide review held on Friday.

The Commission conducted a video conference with all District Election Officers (DEOs) and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Observers to assess the progress of the ongoing exercise. During the meeting, it instructed officials to speed up the digitisation of enumeration forms and issue show-cause notices to EROs whose performance in the process remained below expectations.

In Hyderabad, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner and District Election Officer R.V. Karnan reviewed the progress of the Special Intensive Revision with all EROs and election personnel. The meeting examined the status of data digitisation, timely completion of enumeration forms and compliance with the Election Commission’s schedule.

GHMC reviews SIR digitisation progress

During the review, Karnan found that SIR digitisation in the Sanathnagar, Musheerabad and Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituencies was unsatisfactory and significantly below the expected standards.

Expressing serious concern, the Commissioner issued show-cause notices to the concerned EROs and warned all low-performing officers to improve their performance immediately.

He directed all EROs to closely monitor the digitisation process, ensure accuracy, complete pending work within the stipulated timeline and maintain daily progress reports.

Karnan also cautioned that any negligence or delay in the SIR process would be viewed seriously and appropriate action would be taken against the officials responsible.
