Hyderabad: The Southern Telangana Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) stepped up efforts to expand EV charging stations across Greater Hyderabad under the PM E-Drive scheme.
Earlier, TGSPDCL completed a special drive to identify locations for public stations. As a result, the utility prepared proposals for 3,489 EV charging stations across 10 circles in three categories.
Moreover, TGSPDCL set a target to make up to 2,000 stations operational across Greater Hyderabad within the next six months. Therefore, officials said the focus remained on faster rollout and wider access.
The proposals were prepared under the Prime Minister’s Electric Drive Revolution in the Innovative Vehicle Enhancement scheme. Meanwhile, the discom coordinated with multiple departments to finalise locations.
EV charging stations to receive central subsidies
Under Category A, the Centre offered a 100 per cent subsidy for EV charging stations at Central and State government offices. This category also covered government residential complexes, hospitals, and educational institutions.
Under Category B, the Centre provided a 70 to 80 per cent subsidy for stations along national highways. These locations included railway stations, airport zones, bus stations, metro stations, and toll plazas.
Similarly, under Category C, the Centre extended up to 80 per cent subsidy for EV charging stations on major roads. This category also covered shopping malls and market complexes.
Officials said these incentives would encourage faster installation of the charging stations. As a result, the move aimed to support electric vehicle adoption and reduce dependence on fossil fuels in the city.
