Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday accused the Congress government of running Telangana by selling public lands. He also accused them of depending entirely on Central government funds.
Speaking at a press conference in Warangal, Rao said the Revanth Reddy-led government had failed to fulfil its election promises and had placed state finances in jeopardy. He criticised the Congress for misleading citizens with false claims of development. Additionally, he pointed out that they were avoiding key public issues in the recent Assembly session. These included land encroachments, halted Rythu Bandhu payments, pending unemployment allowances, fee reimbursement delays and unpaid Aarogyasri dues.
Rao also took a swipe at BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, likening his recent Assembly appearance to an “OTP” that appeared briefly and vanished.
Centre-funded works cited as BJP pushes for civic backing
The BJP leader highlighted that despite not having a Lok Sabha MP from Warangal, the Narendra Modi government had invested over ₹2,000 crore in the region. He listed projects such as the Super Specialty Hospital at Kakatiya Medical College, Sammakka-Sarakka Tribal University in Mulugu, and the Kazipet Coach Factory as evidence of Central support.
He alleged that the Congress government was attempting to divert university lands—including those of Hyderabad Central University, MANUU and Kakatiya University—for real estate use instead of addressing faculty shortages.
Rao said major state development works were being carried out under Central schemes like AMRUT and Smart Cities. He urged citizens to elect BJP candidates in the upcoming municipal polls to ensure “genuine development.”
On the stalled Mamnoor Airport project, Rao said that the Centre is ready to support construction. However, the State must first complete land acquisition. He argued that such an airport would benefit international travellers from Warangal and nearby districts.
He also announced that BJP would organise meetings in Bhupalpally and Mulugu to expose what he called the failures of both Congress and BRS governments. Rao added that his party supports the genuine demands of journalists.
Responding to questions from the press, he denied any factionalism in the BJP. “We are united under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. All party leaders and workers are working in coordination,” he stated.
He also criticised the use of abusive language by Congress and BRS leaders in the Assembly and Parliament. Such conduct, he said, sets a poor example for students and young citizens.
During his visit to Warangal, Bhupalpally and Mulugu, Rao took part in a bike rally and visited the Bhadrakali Temple. He was received by local BJP leaders and workers. He was accompanied by senior party officials, including State General Secretaries Dr. N. Gautam Rao and T. Veerender Goud, Chief Spokesperson N.V. Subhash and Yuva Morcha President Ganesh.
