Hyderabad: Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an Ebola advisory for passengers arriving from high-risk African countries amid growing concern over the virus spread.
Airport authorities asked travellers from Ebola-affected countries to immediately report symptoms to health officials. The advisory also applies to passengers transiting through those nations.
The Directorate General of Health Services under the Union Health Ministry issued the advisory. Later, Delhi airport shared the guidelines through its official X account.
Based on World Health Organization reports, authorities identified the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan as high-risk countries.
Passengers arriving from these countries must report symptoms such as fever, vomiting, severe weakness and diarrhoea before immigration clearance.
Officials also listed headache, muscle pain, sore throat and unexplained bleeding among the warning signs.
Ebola advisory issued for high-risk travellers
Authorities directed passengers exposed to blood or body fluids of suspected Ebola patients to immediately inform airport health officials.
Further, the advisory asked travellers to seek immediate medical help if symptoms appeared within 21 days after arriving in India.
Passengers must also share their recent travel history with doctors during treatment.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Republic of Congo recently reported 513 suspected Ebola cases and 131 suspected deaths.
Following the developments, Jordan imposed temporary restrictions on travellers arriving from Congo and Uganda.
Delhi airport authorities urged passengers to cooperate with health screening measures in the interest of public safety.
