Hyderabad: Ameerpet police seized 55 liquor bottles worth about Rs 1.5 lakh near SR Nagar and arrested a man for allegedly smuggling them from Karnataka for illegal sale in Hyderabad.
Police identified the accused as K. Govardhan Reddy, 46. The Karnataka liquor seizure followed checks conducted by Ameerpet police in the SR Nagar area. During the operation, police found premium liquor and defence liquor originating from Karnataka.
Officials said the accused had allegedly transported the liquor illegally from Karnataka to Hyderabad. He then sold the bottles in the city for profit, according to police.

Police estimated the value of the 55 seized bottles at around Rs 1.5 lakh. Investigators alleged that Govardhan Reddy brought the liquor from Karnataka and sold it to customers in Hyderabad.
According to police, the accused aimed to earn an additional profit of between Rs 300 and Rs 500 on each bottle. The seized stock included premium brands as well as liquor described by police as defence liquor.
Police took possession of all 55 bottles during the checks and arrested Govardhan Reddy in connection with the alleged illegal transportation and sale. The Karnataka liquor seizure formed part of enforcement against unauthorised movement and sale of liquor brought from another state.
Ameerpet police registered a case against Govardhan Reddy following the seizure. Officials continued their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the transportation and intended sale of the liquor.
Police were examining the alleged movement of the bottles from Karnataka to Hyderabad and their subsequent sale in the city. The investigation into the Karnataka liquor seizure and the accused’s alleged involvement remained under way.
