Railways to act against fake videos on social media

Hyderabad: Indian Railways announced strict action against people spreading fake videos on social media that mislead passengers about train operations.

Officials said over 20 social media accounts had circulated old or edited clips showing crowd chaos at railway stations. The Railway Administration has flagged these accounts and begun filing FIRs against those responsible. The department warned that such content creates panic, especially during the ongoing festive season.

To counter misinformation, Railways activated a 24×7 social media monitoring system. This team tracks misleading posts in real time and works with police to take quick action.

Fake videos trigger railway crackdown

Officials urged passengers not to share or upload unverified footage of railway incidents. They advised the public to rely only on official accounts of the Ministry of Railways — @RailMinIndia on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube — for accurate updates.

Railways also reminded users that sharing false or misleading information invites legal action under cyber laws. They appealed to passengers to stay alert and help maintain order by avoiding the spread of misinformation online.
