Hyderabad: Labour & Employment Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy on Monday paid tribute to the late Kaka Venkatswamy’s lifelong service to the poor, working classes and social justice at the Golden Jubilee Alumni Programme of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Educational Institutions, celebrating the enduring legacy he has left behind.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said he and his brother G. Vinod are continuing their father’s vision and ideals with his blessings. He pointed out that Kaka Venkatswamy founded the Ambedkar Educational Institutions inspired by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s philosophy to extend quality education to economically disadvantaged students.
Education, employment and institutional impact
Vivek Venkatswamy said nearly 6,000 students from weaker sections are studying at the institutions, with many securing jobs across sectors. He noted several students achieved State ranks in Intermediate exams, including 2nd, 4th, and 5th places, thereby contributing to the ongoing Kaka Venkatswamy legacy.
Recalling key contributions, he said Kaka Venkatswamy introduced the ration system for the poor to ensure food security. He also championed women’s reservation and played a pivotal role in bringing the Panchayati Raj Bill to Parliament.

Economic and social reforms highlighted
The Minister said Kaka Venkatswamy’s ₹125 crore initiative for the textile and handloom sector helped it become a major employment generator. Additionally, he highlighted the introduction of the private sector pension system, a model that gained global attention, marking another chapter in his remarkable legacy.
Vivek Venkatswamy added that Kaka Venkatswamy’s efforts created nearly one lakh jobs in Singareni’s coal sector. He also secured house-site pattas for about 30,000 workers. This greatly improved their living conditions. He recalled the revival of the Ramagundam Fertilizer Factory during Dr. Manmohan Singh’s tenure. This was achieved through ₹10,000 crore in CSR investment, generating about 5,000 jobs and further reinforcing Kaka Venkatswamy’s lasting legacy in improving lives.
Governors and alumni reflect on legacy
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, chief guest at the event, said Kaka Venkatswamy devoted his life to the welfare of the poor. He congratulated the family for sustaining the legacy and noted that the Ambedkar institutions, with over one lakh alumni, have transformed lives in India and abroad. He urged politics to focus on empowering people, not positions, drawing inspiration from the Kaka Venkatswamy legacy.
Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad participated as guest of honour.
Golden Jubilee reflections and global opportunities
Mrs. Saroja Vivek Venkatswamy, Correspondent of the Ambedkar Educational Institutions, said Kaka Venkatswamy remained active in public life under Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, always prioritising welfare. She said the institutions never turned away a needy student and consistently offer scholarships to high achievers. She added the alumni meet, uniting students from the past 50 years, was a proud and memorable occasion. Moreover, there are global exposure opportunities through law internships in Dubai and exchanges in Kazakhstan, further enriching the Kaka Venkatswamy legacy.
