Vivek showcases Telangana labour model at BRICS Trade Union Forum

Hyderabad: Labour, Employment, Training and Factories, and Mines and Geology Minister Dr G. Vivek Venkatswamy on Wednesday showcased the Telangana labour model during the “Best Tripartite Practices in BRICS+ Countries” session at the BRICS Trade Union Forum Summit 2026 in Hyderabad.

The Minister said workers are the backbone of the global economy. He stressed that governments must ensure dignity of labour, fair wages, safe working conditions and comprehensive social security.

Vivek Venkatswamy said Telangana’s tripartite model involving the government, employers and trade unions had emerged as a benchmark. He said regular consultations had helped resolve industrial disputes, maintain industrial peace and strengthen the State’s investment climate.

Further, the Minister said artificial intelligence, automation and the digital economy had increased the importance of trade unions. He urged unions to support skill development, productivity and workforce preparedness.

The Minister said the government gives equal importance to industrial growth and labour welfare. He added that effective implementation of labour laws, digital governance and harmonious industrial relations had strengthened Telangana’s industrial ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Vivek Venkatswamy highlighted welfare schemes for construction workers, including accident insurance, financial assistance, education support and skill development. He also said the government continued efforts to eliminate child labour.

He noted that Telangana was among the first States to enact a dedicated law for gig and platform workers. According to the Minister, the legislation provides registration, social security benefits, welfare schemes and grievance redressal.

Further, Vivek Venkatswamy said the State was establishing 120 Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs). These centres will train youth in artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, green technologies, healthcare and other emerging sectors.

He added that the Telangana Rising-2047 Vision envisages major investments across sectors. The ATCs, he said, would help create the skilled workforce needed to support this growth.

The Minister also highlighted the achievements of the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM). He said the organisation had facilitated overseas employment for around 14,000 youth in 16 countries through counselling, skill assessment, language training and visa support.

Besides, Vivek Venkatswamy proposed greater cooperation among BRICS nations on skill recognition, ethical recruitment, social security portability and grievance redressal for migrant workers. He also highlighted the government’s initiatives to promote women’s economic empowerment through self-help groups, skill development and overseas employment.

Referring to the International Labour Organization’s principle that lasting peace depends on social justice, the Minister said Telangana remains committed to strengthening labour welfare. International delegates appreciated the State’s initiatives in labour welfare, skill development, overseas employment and industrial relations during the forum.

The Telangana Government felicitated trade union leaders and government representatives from BRICS and other participating countries with traditional shawls and mementoes. In return, the visiting delegates honoured Vivek Venkatswamy with commemorative mementoes.
