Hyderabad: Industries and Commerce Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Friday said Telangana aimed to become a national leader in Plastics manufacturing. He described the sector as a key driver of India’s economic growth.
Inaugurating HIPLEX 2026 at the HITEX Exhibition Centre, the Minister invited industry stakeholders to partner with the government. Moreover, he urged them to accelerate investment, innovation and sustainable manufacturing in the State.
Organised by the Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA), the four-day exhibition features more than 550 exhibitors. Further, organisers expect over 55,000 business visitors from India and abroad.
Plastics manufacturing drives Telangana’s industrial vision
Sridhar Babu said the plastics and polymers sector provides direct employment to nearly 50 lakh people. It also supports indirect employment for more than one crore people nationwide. Meanwhile, nearly two lakh families in Telangana depend on the industry for their livelihoods.
The Minister assured industry representatives of the government’s support for policy reforms. In addition, he said Telangana planned to replicate its success in IT, electronics, pharmaceuticals, GCCs, defence and aerospace in the plastics and polymers sector.
According to Plastindia Foundation president Raju Desai, India’s plastics industry had grown into a ₹4.5 lakh crore sector. The industry was expanding at 6–9 per cent annually. Exports are expected to cross ₹1.4 lakh crore this year, he said. India also recycles nearly 60 per cent of the plastics it consumes.
AIPMA Chairman Arvind Mehta called for greater focus on exports, technology adoption, skill development and sustainability. Finally, AIPMA Senior Vice President Anil Reddy Vennam urged Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to establish a dedicated Plastics Park and a 250-acre recycling cluster with a Common Effluent Treatment Plant.
HIPLEX 2026 also features a Recycling Pavilion, live demonstrations of advanced machinery, recycling systems, next-generation polymer technologies, technical conferences and business networking sessions. The exhibition will continue until August 10, from 10 am to 6 pm.
