Hyderabad: State ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Vivek Venkataswamy inspected the proposed Pranahita Barrage construction site near Tummidihatti village.
The ministers reviewed barrage height, canal capacity and other technical details with irrigation officials.
They later paid floral tributes to the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar at the Tummidihatti Pushkar Ghat.
During a press conference, the ministers said Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding the project.
The Telangana government sent the letter to discuss issues related to the barrage.
Pranahita Barrage height to be discussed with Maharashtra
The ministers stated that Telangana officials would meet the Maharashtra Chief Minister next week to discuss the barrage height.
They also said the government would provide compensation to farmers affected by submergence in Maharashtra.
Jupally Krishna Rao alleged that the previous BRS government shifted the Pranahita project from Tummidihatti to Medigadda.
He claimed the decision caused injustice to Telangana.
The minister stated that authorities needed to construct the barrage at a height of 150 to 152 metres at Tummidihatti.
He further said Telangana could fully implement the project only after securing approval from Maharashtra.
According to Jupally Krishna Rao, a 152-metre barrage would submerge nearly 5,000 acres in Maharashtra.
The minister alleged that the previous government diverted the project towards Medigadda for political reasons.
Sirpur MLA Dr Palvai Harish Babu, MLC Dande Vitthal, Bellampalli MLA G Vinod and irrigation officials attended the programme.
