Hyderabad: The Civil Supplies Department procured 30 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the ongoing Rabi 2025-26 procurement season and credited Rs 4,520 crore in Minimum Support Price payments directly to farmers.
The Civil Supplies Department stated that procurement operations were continuing at full capacity to ensure smooth purchases during the peak procurement period.
Officials said the government released MSP payments without delay under the supervision of Civil Supplies Commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra, IPS.
Farmers brought large quantities of both fine and coarse grain varieties to procurement centres across the state.
The department purchased 9 lakh metric tonnes of fine variety paddy, also known as Sannarakam. The remaining 21 lakh metric tonnes consisted of coarse variety paddy, commonly called Doddurakam.
Telangana paddy procurement enters peak phase
The government opened 8,575 Paddy Purchase Centres across all districts to handle the heavy arrival of grain during the Rabi season.
Among these centres, PACS operated 4,350 centres, while IKP managed 3,563 centres. Other agencies operated the remaining 662 centres.
To support procurement operations, the department positioned 18.6 crore gunny bags and tarpaulins at the centres to safeguard paddy stocks.
Officials also deployed around 11,500 transport vehicles, including lorries, tractors and DCMs, to move paddy from procurement centres to rice mills without delay.
The department posted special officers at procurement centres and rice mills to supervise loading and unloading activities and ensure smooth movement of stocks.
Telangana paddy procurement backed by logistics support
The government increased hamali charges at SWC godowns to address labour shortages and speed up procurement operations.
Officials revised the handling charges to Rs 17 per quintal to support workers involved in paddy handling activities.
Meanwhile, the Food Corporation of India allocated 10 lakh metric tonnes of boiled rice for the KMS 2025-26 season.
The Civil Supplies Department stated that it was focusing on strong coordination, daily monitoring and rapid response mechanisms to ensure timely procurement and payments for farmers.
