District gears up to procure record 9 LMT paddy this kharif season

Hyderabad: The district administration is preparing for record paddy procurement this kharif season, expecting to collect over 9 lakh metric tonnes of grain. Civil Supplies officials confirmed that a detailed action plan is in place to manage the process efficiently.

The district has topped Telangana in paddy procurement for two consecutive years. To maintain its lead, authorities are setting up over 650 purchase centres. These centres will separately handle fine and coarse paddy. The first batch will open after Dasara in Banswada, Varni, Kotagiri, Rudrur, Chandur, and Mosra mandals.

Early measures to avoid past disruptions

Officials have stocked tarpaulin covers to shield grain from unexpected rains. Each centre will have tents and drinking water to ensure basic amenities. Last season, unseasonal showers damaged stored grain and caused distress among farmers. The administration is taking extra precautions this time.

Rice millers must now submit bank guarantees before lifting kharif paddy. Gunny bags required for the first phase are already in stock.

Faster payments, stricter enforcement

Farmers previously faced delays in receiving payments due to slow tab entries and poor stock movement. This season, officials will speed up data entry and transfer grain to mills faster to avoid hold-ups.

The administration warned of strict action for any irregularities. Officials have already denylisted some millers. They added that criminal cases would follow if anyone violates procurement protocols or fails to maintain transparency.

Officials expect bumper output

Favourable rainfall enabled paddy cultivation across 4.37 lakh acres this kharif. The government’s bonus announcement encouraged farmers to grow more fine paddy. Officials expect to procure over 9 LMT as a result.
