Telangana extends LRS fee discount till July 31

Hyderabad: The Telangana government extended the 25 per cent LRS fee discount till July 31 after collections under the Layout Regularisation Scheme fell short of expectations. The government had expected Rs 10,000 crore revenue through the scheme, but it collected only around Rs 2,000 crore over the past several months.

The government will offer the concession from May 1 to July 31 for regularisation of unauthorised layouts across the state. Municipal Administration and Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan issued GO MS No.131 on Wednesday.

More than six lakh applicants paid fees under the scheme earlier. However, officials gave proceedings to only around two lakh applicants after verification.

LRS fee discount revenue dropped after March

Authorities received 26.15 lakh applications under the Layout Regularisation Scheme across Telangana. Officials rejected 6.04 lakh applications and sent fee intimation letters to 20.11 lakh applicants.

Only 6.26 lakh applicants paid the required charges so far. Irrigation, revenue and town planning officials jointly verified the applications before issuing final proceedings.

The government collected Rs 114.73 crore before announcing the concession on February 20, 2025. After introducing the 25 per cent rebate, collections rose sharply in March.

The state received Rs 1.18 crore in February after the concession announcement. Collections increased to Rs 1,402.02 crore in March. Revenue later dropped to Rs 353.17 crore in April and Rs 119.84 crore in May. The government received only Rs 9.81 crore till June 15.

Despite the decline in collections, the government decided to continue the concession and give applicants another opportunity to regularise unauthorised layouts before July 31.
