Hyderabad: Telangana showcased its EV charging infrastructure model and implementation strategy at the national conference on nationwide EV charging infrastructure under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme.
The conference took place in Bengaluru and brought together representatives from Central ministries, state departments, public sector enterprises and EV industry stakeholders.
Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy attended the inaugural session along with senior officials from multiple states.
Meanwhile, Special Chief Secretary for Energy Navin Mittal presented Telangana’s progress in EV adoption and charging infrastructure.
He said Telangana registered more than 2.8 lakh electric vehicles, including 91,572 new registrations during 2025-26.
Officials said nearly five percent of new vehicle registrations in the state are electric vehicles.
EV charging infrastructure expands rapidly in Telangana
Officials added that the EV market value reached Rs 6,297 crore during 2025-26.
The state currently operates 325 electric buses from six city depots. In addition, authorities are retrofitting 240 diesel buses into electric buses.
Officials said Telangana aims to operate 2,800 electric buses in Hyderabad by 2027.
The state has 1,063 operational EV charging stations, including around 600 within Hyderabad.
TGREDCO currently operates nearly 200 public charging stations in GHMC limits.
Meanwhile, officials said EV charging consumption increased nearly four times year-on-year, reflecting growing usage.
TGREDCO plans to establish EV charging stations at 116 locations under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme after securing Rs 10.24 crore under Phase-I.
Officials said Telangana aims to establish 6,000 EV charging and battery swapping stations by 2030 and 12,000 stations by 2035.
The state also offers full exemption on road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles to encourage adoption.
