Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in Banjara Hills after police detained Save KBR Park volunteers who protested against tree felling near Indo-American Cancer Hospital.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the civilian organisation said volunteers and local residents staged a peaceful protest after noticing tree felling activity in the area around 2 am on Tuesday.
Volunteer Deeksha said activists rushed to the spot after GHMC allegedly began cutting trees during the night.
She said the volunteers held a peaceful demonstration against the tree felling activity.
Save KBR Park volunteers seek release of detained protesters
However, police later took the protesters into custody and shifted them to Banjara Hills police station.
The organisation urged police to disclose the status and whereabouts of those detained during the protest.
Volunteers also demanded legal access and immediate release of the detained individuals.
The incident intensified concerns among environmental activists opposing tree felling activities near KBR Park.
