Tank Bund accident kills six-year-old girl and relative

Hyderabad: A Tank Bund accident claimed the lives of a six-year-old girl and her relative early Sunday, police said. The incident occurred under the Domalguda Police Station limits while the family had arrived for the girl’s birthday celebration.

Inspector Anjad Ali said Sainath, a resident of Alwal, had travelled with his wife and two daughters. Their close relative Vishwanth and his wife also accompanied them in the car.

The group watched a second-show movie at PVR Cinema Mall in Kukatpally on Saturday evening. Later, they travelled to Tank Bund for the birthday celebrations of Sainath’s six-year-old daughter, Sharakhsi.

The family reached Tank Bund at around 2:15 am on Sunday. After parking the car on the side, Vishwanth carried Sharakhsi in his arms while crossing the road towards the waterside.

At the same time, a truck driven by Farooq, who was from Rajasthan, reportedly hit them. Police said the truck driver allegedly drove negligently and struck Vishwanth and the child.

Passers-by immediately assisted the injured victims and helped arrange emergency medical treatment. A 108 ambulance took Sharakhsi to KIMS Hospital, while Vishwanth was shifted to Gandhi Hospital.

Doctors at KIMS Hospital declared Sharakhsi dead after she was brought there. Meanwhile, Vishwanth received treatment at Gandhi Hospital but died on Sunday morning.

Tank Bund accident leads to police action against truck crew

Following the crash, Sainath approached the police and lodged a complaint. Police registered a case based on his complaint and took truck driver Farooq into custody.

The police also detained the truck’s helper, identified as Saiyyeed Khan. Subsequently, investigators began further proceedings into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

According to police, the investigation remained underway after both victims died from injuries sustained in the crash. The incident occurred as the family had travelled to Tank Bund for Sharakhsi’s birthday celebration.

The tragedy left the family mourning the death of the child and Vishwanth. Police said further investigation would determine the circumstances of the accident.
