Telangana to host international short film festival in December

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has cleared three new cultural initiatives to strengthen the film and television sectors, including a short film festival in December.

Short film festival and awards to promote local talent

As per G.O.Rt.No.1540, the Telangana Film Development Corporation (TGFDC) will sponsor the Hyderabad International Short Film Festival. Scheduled from December 19 to 21, 2025, it will be organised in collaboration with the Dadasaheb Phalke School of Film Studies. The government has approved ₹30 lakh from TGFDC’s existing funds for the event.

Through G.O.Rt.No.1541, a new committee will frame the guidelines, regulations and logo design for the proposed Telangana Television Awards 2024. The panel includes senior figures from the media and entertainment industry.

In a separate order (G.O.Rt.No.1549), the State sanctioned the Young Filmmakers Awards Function. A restructured jury will lead the event. The panel includes director Harish Shankar, singer Rahul Sipligunj, cinematographer P.G. Vinda and director Balagam Venu. This awards function will also receive ₹30 lakh in funding from the Corporation’s own resources.

Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said these initiatives show the government’s commitment to promoting creative talent and supporting new voices in film and television.
