Hyderabad: Blade fragments were removed from a 16-year-old boy at Osmania General Hospital after he swallowed them early Thursday morning. Doctors detected the fragments through an X-ray before shifting him for further treatment.
Mohammad Mujibur Rahman was admitted to the Osmania General Surgery Department after his family brought him to the hospital. An X-ray showed the presence of blade fragments inside his body.
Doctors then shifted the boy to the gastroenterology department because of the risk of stomach or intestinal injuries. They also considered the possibility of perforation caused by the sharp fragments.
The medical team successfully removed the fragments through a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure. The treatment was performed under the leadership of HOD Dr. B. Ramesh Kumar.
According to the hospital superintendent’s office, the procedure was completed without complications. The boy recovered after treatment and was reported to be in good health.

The case required prompt medical attention because swallowed sharp objects can pose risks to the digestive tract. Therefore, doctors used endoscopy to remove the fragments without an open surgical procedure.
Meanwhile, the hospital said the boy remained healthy after the treatment. The successful procedure prevented the reported risk of injuries or perforation to the stomach and intestines.
