Hyderabad: Seasonal disease preparedness and public health protection measures took centre stage during a high-level review meeting chaired by Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha in Hyderabad.
The minister reviewed measures to prevent monsoon-related diseases, strengthen government hospital readiness and safeguard public health across the state.
Officials briefed him on the current status of dengue, malaria, chikungunya, diarrhoea and typhoid cases.
They also presented district-wise data, hospital preparedness measures, the availability of medicines, diagnostic kits and mosquito-control activities.
Public Health Director Dr Ravinder Naik explained the ongoing fever surveys and awareness programmes being conducted across Telangana.
Seasonal disease preparedness remains top health priority
During the review, Damodar Raja Narasimha said protecting public health remains the government’s highest priority.
He stressed that preventing disease outbreaks should take precedence over treating infections after they spread.
Therefore, he directed district authorities to work with advance planning and continuously monitor local conditions.
The minister instructed all government hospitals to remain fully prepared for the monsoon season.
He said hospitals must maintain adequate stocks of medicines, diagnostic kits, ORS packets and platelets.
Additionally, healthcare facilities should ensure sufficient staffing and uninterrupted emergency services.
The minister directed officials to conduct immediate tests and provide prompt treatment to patients showing symptoms of seasonal illnesses.
Meanwhile, he asked health authorities to intensify mosquito-control measures in coordination with municipal and panchayat raj departments.
He also instructed officials to effectively implement the weekly Dry Day programme at the field level.
Surveillance and awareness drives to be intensified
Damodar Raja Narasimha directed officials to continue source reduction, larval control, fogging operations and fever surveys on a regular basis.
He asked departments to focus on villages, urban localities, schools, hostels, construction sites and other high-risk areas.
Furthermore, ASHA workers and ANMs should visit households and create awareness about disease prevention, he said.
The minister called for stronger coordination among municipal administration, panchayat raj, education, women and child welfare and revenue departments.
He said sanitation drives, drinking water safety measures and field-level monitoring should continue without interruption.
Moreover, Rapid Response Teams in every district must remain fully operational.
They should immediately identify and respond to disease clusters to prevent further spread, he added.
The minister also instructed the Public Health Directorate to prepare weekly reports for every district and submit them to the government.
Damodar Raja Narasimha said officials should not treat seasonal disease cases lightly under any circumstances.
He directed them to monitor every case carefully and ensure there is no compromise in public health protection.
The minister also appealed to citizens to keep their surroundings clean and prevent water stagnation.
People should immediately visit the nearest government hospital if they develop fever or symptoms of seasonal diseases, he said.
Medical Education Director Dr Narendra Kumar, GHMC Chief Medical Officer Dr Amar Singh Naik, Additional Director of Public Health and Malaria Division Head Dr Padmaja attended the review meeting.
