Revanth Reddy seeks international-standard airports for Warangal and Adilabad

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to develop the Warangal airport and the proposed Adilabad airport to international standards. He also sought MRO, air cargo and hangar facilities at both airports during a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister said the two airports would boost industrial growth and improve regional connectivity in Telangana. He requested the Union Minister to expedite the projects and complete the Warangal airport by June 2, 2028.

During the meeting, Revanth Reddy highlighted Warangal’s strategic location and existing rail and road connectivity. He said the airport would support the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, the Kazipet Coach Factory and other industries.

Warangal airport design should reflect Kakatiya heritage

The Chief Minister said the airport would serve the north Telangana districts, including the erstwhile Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam regions, besides Nalgonda. He also requested that the airport design reflect the region’s Kakatiya history and culture.

Further, Revanth Reddy informed the Union Minister that land acquisition for the project had already been completed. He urged the Centre to invite tenders and begin construction without delay.

The Chief Minister also requested the establishment of a civil airport alongside the existing Defence airport at Adilabad. He sought MRO, air cargo and hangar facilities there as well. The meeting also discussed setting up Flying Training Organisations at both airports.

Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy suggested examining the feasibility of operating seaplanes between Hussain Sagar and Prakasam Barrage. Rammohan Naidu asked the State Government to submit a detailed proposal.

The Union Minister responded positively to the proposals. He said the Centre would consider the request for a civil airport at Adilabad. He also said the design of the Warangal airport would reflect the city’s cultural heritage.

Later, Revanth Reddy said development should not be linked to politics and stressed that airports play a key role in economic growth and employment generation. He said the State Government would continue to work with the Centre on development projects.

Rammohan Naidu said airports had driven growth in many countries. He praised Telangana for completing land acquisition for the Warangal project faster than any other state. He said other states should emulate Telangana’s approach to airport development and land acquisition.
