Hyderabad: Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao urged Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to support Telangana tourism promotion by introducing the State’s attractions to friends and colleagues abroad and encouraging them to visit Telangana.
Addressing the 19th American Telugu Association (ATA) Conference at the Baltimore Convention Center in the United States, the Minister invited the American Telugu Association and other NRI organisations to adopt tourist destinations and heritage sites in Telangana. He said their participation would help conserve, restore and develop these locations.
Jupally said the Telugu diaspora could play an important role in expanding Telangana tourism promotion across international markets. He added that the State government remained committed to showcasing Telangana’s heritage, culture, history and natural attractions to a global audience. Therefore, it sought active cooperation from Telugu communities living overseas.
Telangana tourism promotion backed by NRI initiatives
The Minister said the government was working to establish an NRI Bhavan in Hyderabad at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore. The proposed facility would provide multiple services for visiting NRIs under one roof and serve as a coordination and facilitation centre for the overseas Telugu community.
Jupally praised the contributions of the Telugu diaspora, saying Telugu people settled abroad had achieved success in education, technology, business and entrepreneurship. At the same time, they had continued to preserve and promote the Telugu language, literature, arts, culture and traditions.
He also appreciated the American Telugu Association, founded in 1990, for uniting Telugu people in the United States and for its sustained efforts to preserve Telugu language, culture and heritage for future generations.
Furthermore, the Minister acknowledged the contribution of NRIs to the development of their native villages and Telangana’s economy. He urged them to continue supporting the State’s development while strengthening Telangana tourism promotion across the world.
