Acharya Bhattu Ramesh appointed Director of Telangana Telugu Academy

Hyderabad: Acharya Bhattu Ramesh was appointed as the new Director of the Telangana Telugu Academy, with the State Education Department issuing orders on Tuesday. The appointment places the former Registrar and senior professor of Suravaram Pratapareddy Telugu University at the helm of the institution responsible for promoting the Telugu language and developing textbooks.

The appointment was welcomed by educationists, scholars, researchers and representatives of tribal organisations. The Telangana Telugu Academy plays a key role in preserving the Telugu language, preparing textbooks and promoting literary and cultural heritage.

Acharya Bhattu Ramesh has more than three decades of experience in higher education. He served two terms as Registrar of Suravaram Pratapareddy Telugu University. He also held important positions, including Chairman of the Janapada Girijana Vignana Peetham, Head of the Department of Tribal Studies and member of the University’s Executive Council.

Acharya Bhattu Ramesh has extensive academic and tribal research experience

Coming from a tribal background, Acharya Bhattu Ramesh has made significant contributions to the preservation of folklore and tribal culture. He completed several major and minor research projects and presented papers at national and international conferences. He also edited more than 30 research volumes on folklore and tribal studies and independently authored seven books.

He played an important role in preparing textbooks such as Banjara Bharati and Banjara Ganitam for tribal students. Under his guidance, several scholars completed M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes.

Beyond academics, he served on various public committees, including monitoring committees during peace talks in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, the State-Level Advisory Committee on Prohibition of Liquor and the Monitoring Committee for Tribal Land Protection Acts. He also led awareness campaigns for the rehabilitation of tribal widows and worked on eliminating child labour in affected villages.

The Telangana government honoured him with the State-Level Best Teacher Award in 2014. He later received the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Award in 2017 for his contributions to tribal literature and folklore.

After assuming office, Acharya Bhattu Ramesh thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for entrusting him with the responsibility. He said he would work for the development of the Telugu language, publication of quality textbooks and preservation of Telangana’s cultural traditions through the Academy.
