Hyderabad: Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan led a high-level review at Jawaharnagar to assess Jawaharnagar waste management initiatives, with officials and technical experts focusing on sustainable waste processing, landfill remediation and community development.
The review was attended by the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Zonal Commissioners, the Deputy Collector and experts from IIT Bombay, J-PAL, Rainbow Homes and ARL. The team inspected the Waste-to-Energy Plant, the Jawaharnagar Landfill and nearby residential communities.
Officials discussed scientific methods to remediate the landfill and examined measures to strengthen biogas production and other sustainable waste-processing systems. They also reviewed ways to improve source segregation and streamline waste collection across the area.
Jawaharnagar waste management priorities reviewed
The meeting also focused on reducing pollution and odour around the landfill through improved waste-handling practices. In addition, officials reviewed plans to enhance livelihoods, expand basic civic amenities and improve educational opportunities for communities living near the landfill.
The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation said the review reflected a collaborative effort by government departments, civic authorities and technical institutions to advance cleaner and more sustainable waste management practices in Jawaharnagar.
